☆ Britain bids farewell to its only giant pandas after 12 years

The return of the Edinburgh bears to China comes as a number of giant pandas have also headed home from the U.S., part of a fading legacy in which giant pandas served as animal ambassadors. That began in 1972, when the government of China presented two giant pandas as gifts to the U.S. after President Richard Nixon's historic Cold War visit to the communist country.

Moody's says that consumer savings rates are rising after bottoming out in June 2022. "We still see it as a normalization, not a deterioration story when we talk about consumer credit.'' But consumer loan delinquency rates are at 2019 levels, and below any level ever seen before 2014, according to Federal Reserve data. At JPMorgan, mortgage credit quality is so solid that the bank reported no net chargeoffs in the second quarter. Overall, the Bureau of Economic Analysis says consumer spending on new vehicles rose $40 billion to $642.4 billion in the first half of the year, with most gains coming in the second quarter.

☆ Rewild the Run: ‘Rewilding’ shoes can help restore nature as you run

CNN —What if you could help nature by simply going out for a run? That’s the idea behind Rewild the Run, a 3D-printed shoe outsole that fits over regular sneakers. The hope is that by spreading seeds, shoes fitted with the outsole could help with rewilding, a form of nature restoration that enables the environment to take care of itself, with reduced human intervention. “How will these shoes distinguish between the seeds of native and non-native plant species?”Carver is skeptical about the principle of urban rewilding itself. She also shares the vision of rewilding taking place at scale and by giving nature space, and says that would be the ideal in cities such as London.
